What do we mean by ‘development’ at Queen’s? Arguably, it means different things to different people in different institutions. Essentially, however, we prefer to regard development as synonymous with helping the school in the widest possible sense. Our goal is simple enough: to do what we can to help make Queen’s an even better school than it is at the moment. In recognising its strengths we appreciate that such strengths need to be bolstered and maintained and that weaknesses should be addressed. There is no place for complacency: the school cannot stand still or rest on its laurels. Instead, Queen’s needs to reflect present and future needs and will have to adapt accordingly. This can only be done to maximum effect by the combined effort of staff, pupils, parents and former pupils. The Development Office will do what it can to encourage co-operation between all interested sections of the school community. We will do that by trying to engage as many people as we can in social events of one sort or another, improving communications between the school and its supporters, helping its alumni and current pupils in whatever way we can and, conversely, encouraging those who support the school to contribute in any way they can.
Development is more than simply the physical improvement to school fabric and facilities. This is clearly an important aspect but so too is the support of individual students whilst at the school and afterwards. It is our intention to help foster the spirit of the school motto - ‘We learn not for school but for
life’. The development of Queen’s College is about the enhancement of the individual as much, or more than, the expansion and refurbishment of the infrastructure of the school. Ultimately, we will all – staff, parents and pupils, past and present – benefit from investment of the broadest kind.
