Old Boys Donate £2,000
Tuesday, 23rd June 2009

Old Boys Masonic Lodge donates over £2,000 to Services Charity.
It’s a long time since Andy Rodgers was a pupil at Queen’s College in Taunton but he keeps in touch with other old boys through membership of the School’s Masonic Lodge of which he is currently the Master. It is the Lodge’s custom to let the Master’s Lady choose the charity towards which donations from their annual Ladies’ Festival are donated. Andy and his wife Chris have a son who is a serving soldier and decided that Help for Heroes was an ideal charity because of its help for wounded service personnel. Members of the Lodge and their guests clearly agreed as a total of over £1,350 was raised through an auction and raffle. Somerset Freemasonry also considered this a worthy cause and arranged for a further donation of £750 through the Grand Charity “Match Grant” Scheme, which resulted in cheques totalling over £2,100 being handed over.
Andy Rodgers (second from left) handed these cheques to Help for Heroes West Somerset Representative Richard Lupton at a short ceremony at the Taunton Masonic Centre on Saturday 17th January.
Also present was Gary Doyle a serving Officer in the Navy (far right) who was a guest at the lodge meeting which followed the hand over. In that meeting his son Stuart was the candidate for initiation. Jim Wiltshire the Lodge’s Charity Steward is also pictured (far left).
