OQ Update: Michael Brunt

John Elford writes:

"Michael Brunt (1936-43) has written to me with updated news on himself and his two sons who were also at Queens. Michael’s big event for 2008 was in July when he and Viv celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a lunch for 80 guests including some O.Q’s in the Performing Arts Centre at Queens. His eldest son, Murray (1972- 79), who is a Senior Consultant Oncologist at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, was awarded Fellowship at the Royal College of Physicians, London, to add to his first Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists. He specialises in the research and treatment of breast cancer, and is affiliated to Keele University. In 2008, he was elected on to the Research Committee of the Royal College of Radiologists. He is currently the National Deputy of the breast cancer electronic network, and during this year will become the head for the next two years. Murray has lived in North Shropshire for nearly 20 years with his wife, Sue, and their two daughters, who are at Newcastle University. He was the principal speaker at the open forum on cancer, “questions and answers”, held at Queens in October 2007. When at Queens he was captain of cricket and at Westminster Medical school, and now enjoys playing tennis and fell walking.

Michael and Viv’s second son, Richard, (1974-81) also captained the first cricket XI and also at Southampton University, where he graduated in Civil Engineering. He is involved in infrastructure projects in Yorkshire and the Midlands. He now lives in Worcester with his wife Kathryn and their son, Sam, who was head chorister at the Cathedral, and daughter, Rebecca, both pupils at Kings, Worcester. Richard played the cello at Queens, and now plays in two orchestras in Worcestershire. Michael and his family have had a long connection with Queens as both his elder brother, Devon, (1934-38) and younger brother, David (1942-51) attended the School, but sadly both have died. Michael is a keen supporter of the School and the Association and for many years he and his wife played golf at the O.Q’s golf weekends."
