Jeff Cox (1961-1970) has just published a book on the local weekly newspaper, the West Somerset Free Press, which his family - Old Queenians stretching back to the 1880s - ran for 120 years.
The West Somerset Free Press celebrates its 150th anniversary in July. Over the past three years, Jeff has read every copy of the paper since that first edition on July 28th 1860 and in his new book, 'West Somerset In The News,' he selects reports of the key personalities and events that have shaped West Somerset from the middle of Queen Victoria's reign through to the present day.
'West Somerset In The News' is a 160-page A4 hardback featuring over 200 historic photographs and original extracts from the Free Press and is on sale, price £19.99, in all local bookshops or via Halsgrove Publishers at Wellington Tel: 44(0)1823 653 777 or their website http://www.halsgrove.com/
Jeff has been a journalist all his working life and for the past 20 years has been a senior producer with BBC News in London, specialising in the coverage of foreign news for the BBC's TV and radio bulletins, and online sites.
